Fall Into Flavor - German Chocolate Pie

I look forward to Mondays each week to see what goodness is shared, thanks to Linda's Fall Into Flavor. And being the rule follower I am, I am happy to submit to Linda's specification that "Healthy choices are not the focus here. In fact, the more butter, the better" and "You can also magically put on a few pounds just by eating butter and evaporated milk-laden goodies."

German Chocolate Pie. Rich, decadent, and pure goodness. You don't even want to know how many calories and fat grams are in this one!

Once again, this recipe is from my much used The Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook. (And again, they didn't put it in The All-New Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook; what's up with that?!)

GERMAN CHOCOLATE PIE
Yield: 8 Servings

Pastry for 10-inch pie
1 4-ounce package sweet baking chocolate
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 12-ounce can evaporated milk
1 1/2 cups sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2/3 cup flaked coconut
1/3 cup chopped pecans
1 cup sweetened whipped cream
3 tablesppons chocolate shavings

1. Prepare pastry; place in a 9 1/2 inch deep-dish pie plate. Set aside.
2. Combine baking chocolate and butter in a medium saucepan; cook over low heat, stirring until chocolate melts. Remove from heat and gradually stir in evaporated mil; set aside.
3. Combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a large bowl; add eggs and vanilla, mixing well. Gradually stir in chocolate mixture, using a wire wisk.
4. Pour mixture into unbaked pastry shell, and sprinkle with coconut and chopped pecans.
5. Bake at 375 for 45 minutes. (Pie may appear soft, but will become firm after cooling.) Cool at least 4 hours. Top pie with whipped cream and chocolate shavings.

If it calls for evaporated milk, I'm in. :-) This goes in my collection for a pie-exchange my extended family does at Thanksgiving. Sounds wonderful...PLUS, we're GERMAN. How much better can it get?!
THANKS!
Happy Monday!
