These Are a Few of My Favorite Random Things

After days and days of spring weather, we've descended back into the throes of winter with rain and temperatures hovering around the 40 degree mark for about 3 days straight. Every year I tell myself not to get used to spring until after Easter because it will get cold again, and yet every year it seems like the spring weather lasts long enough that I think maybe it's really here to stay.

As I've stayed bundled inside and done some laundry and cleaning (even cleaned the light fixtures over our bathroom sink, wonder of wonders!), I was tagged by my new friend Cindy over at Letters from Midlife. Seems she wants to know 7 Random Things About Me. Hmm. I hope she'll still be my friend after she reads them!

1. I have never lived anywhere but Texas. Born and raised here. Have the accent to prove it, although I think it's gotten better as I've gotten older. But when I was in college, my friends from up north (i.e., Dallas) used to get me to count to 10 so they could hear me say "nigh-yine". (What? You don't say it with 2 syllables?)

2. In spite of #1, I have never owned a pair of cowboy boots. We don't all live in a home, home on the range where the deer and the antelope play. And while we're on the "nevers", I've never bounced a check, smoked a cigarette, or had a beer. I promise you that I'm still a fun person! I think.

3. I have a special talent, for which I won a prize as a child: I won a book at a public library party for saying the alphabet backwards. I'd tell you how fast I can do it now, but a gal's gotta have some secrets! (See, I told you I was fun!)

4. I always wanted to be a singer. When I was a kid, I used to pretend I was on The Lawrence Welk Show. (Nerdy, I know! Keep thinking "she's FUN!") For those of you who have been around awhile, I thought it would be the coolest thing to be in a group like TRUTH or Eternity.

5. Born as I was before the days of ultrasounds, everyone in my family was just sure I was going to be a boy up until the very moment I was born. My brother, who was 11, cried when he was told I was a girl. He got over it. I was such a charmer he couldn't help himself.

6. I am a crunchy food person. Tacos instead of enchiladas. Chips instead of french fries. Cookies instead of cake. And popcorn, buttery and hot, popped on the stove the old-fashioned way.

7. I love words - puns, poems, puzzles, books. The English language delights me with all its nuances and idiosyncracies. (And yes, I love My Fair Lady!)

So there you have it. A riveting and exhilirating display of my random peculiarities attributes. I'm sure you are transfixed. . . or not.

Now it is my delight to tag 7 of you whom I would like to know a little better. If you decide to play along, link back to me and let me know! So. . . Cathy, Chatty Kelly, Skoots1Mom, My ADHD Me, Natalie, Suzanne, and Shaunarumbling - Tag, you're IT!

Okay, now I've read all these and am nervous. If my stats plummet, I may delete this post! I really am FUN!!

those were great and I'm sure we all (the over 40 group) still think you're fun! :)

we didn't have an ultrasound with our first and we were certain she was going to be a boy. When the doc told me it was a girl, I said "are you sure?" He held her up and said "what do you think?"

I loved reading this :) No cowboy boots?!?

That's ok, I live in Iowa and I swear I've never lived on a pig farm :)

You are a delight, my friend.

If I do it again, I'll definitely link to you, but it may not be in the next week or so.

I did let ADHD Me know. THANKS for the shout-out!!!!

I'll be playing along at the beginning of the week.

Thanks for the tag, (even though I ducked and you missed).

As some one who has done all three, it doesn't make you fun. I promise.

I still think you're fun, even if our pasts were different!! (I bet you remember more about yours than I do...)

Although I own several pairs of cowboy boots, I am certainly not a cowgirl in the traditional sense. My boots are strictly for dancing the 2 step, waltz and polka at a dance hall. (I know I'm shocking all my fellow Baptists!)

It's funny how we sterotype poeple based on where they live. You must be a vegan if you live in California, a cowboy if you live in Wyoming or Texas and a redneck if you live south of the Mason-Dixon, right?

When I was a freshman in college, my math professor made fun of the way I said nine!

Her words to the whole class were, "I used to talk like that too until I took a speech class." My thoughts were, we'll you didn't take a manners class did ya!

Now I wanted to be on Hee Haw!! Interesting! Thanks for the info about the boots too! I did think all people in TX owned one. BTW buck up baby on a 40 degree day we lay out in the sun here in michigan!!!!

That was a really fun list, Linda. (And you are ANYTHING but boring.)

I'm always fascinated by people who were born, raised and stay in the same state their whole lives. I know very few people like that.

(It's 55 and sunny here today. Can you match that? Or beat it?)

Oh, you are fun! I, on the other hand... :-)

I had cowboy boots when I lived in Texas and now I'm wishing I knew what happened to them! They were red and I would dearly love to have them back...
