TSMSS - Redeemed!

This hymn by Fanny Crosby has always made me smile. The words and truth found within are fantastic, and I've always loved both tunes of this song.

You see, there are two versions in the Baptist Hymnal; the words are the same but the melodies are different. I'm always happy to find a great arrangement of an old hymn on to share with you, and this one by the sibling group The Martins is especially fun because they combine the two melodies. They sing one verse with each melody, then they split and sing the 3rd verse simultaneously, with Joyce (the blonde sister) singing melody 1 and the Judy (the brunette) singing melody 2, while their brother, Jonathan, harmonizes with both. That's difficult to do any time, but the fact that they sing it acapella astounds me. Finally, they weave the two melodies together, alternating with each line. You can tell they do indeed love to proclaim that they are Redeemed!

REDEEMED, HOW I LOVE TO PROCLAIM IT*/REDEEMED**

Redeemed--how I love to proclaim it!
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed through His infinite mercy,
His child, and forever, I am.

CHORUS:
Redeemed, redeemed,
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed, redeemed,
His child, and forever, I am.

Redeemed and so happy in Jesus,
No language my rapture can tell;
I know that the light of His presence
With me doth continually dwell.

I think of my blessed Redeemer,
I think of Him all the day long;
I sing, for I cannot be silent;
His love is the theme of my song.

I know I shall see in His beauty
The King in whose law I delight;
Who lovingly guardeth my footsteps,
And giveth me songs in the night.

WORDS: Fanny Crosby, 1882
MUSIC: William Kirkpatrick, 1882 (Redeemed, How I Love to Proclaim It)
A. L. Butler, 1967 (Redeemed)

*This title is the original melody composed and is the tune sung in the first verse
**This is the title given to the newer tune sung in the second verse.

Oh, you are SO right! The arrangement is beautiful. I often post the words to hymns that are so much a part of me that they come to mind without any conscious attempt to retrieve them! Thankfully, there are a few "contemporary" singers who are bringing them back in fresh melodies. Thanks for posting this WONDERFUL SONG.

Hi, I'm a first-timer at TSMSS and visiting participants's entries.

I love Redeemed, How I Love to Proclaim It. The Martins sing it beautifully. And it's acapella. Just fabulous! Thanks for sharing. Happy Saturday.

I just read your RACONTEUR post. WAHAHA. You won't be getting any "aw, the poor things" from me. I'm 100% with you on that. I don't hug trees either. I like trees for shade. And they are very beautiful. They also make great homes for small animals HOWEVER I've just never been in the habit of hugging them. Aw geez, I've done it again...Monkeys Are Funny.

Oh, they are so good, Linda. I loved it. I also wrote a song "Redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb."

Oh I can't listen now but I will come back. I loved your post and the info. about the song and the singers. BTW thanks for visiting. I purposefully put the music at the top so it is easy to turn off. But I actually meant to delete it today all together but I was running late this morning.
I will come back later and listen to your song.
Thanks for sharing and visiting.
Many Blessings,
Sherry

My connection was too slow for me to hear the song. But I love Fanny Crosby's hymns too. The titles of my 3 in 1 Blessed Assurance is based on her song of that name:
Whispers of Love, Lost in His Love, and Echoes of Mercy.
I don't think I'm the first author to use Fanny as a source of titles.
Ta!

Wow! Wow! Wow! I just sat here watching/listening spellbound with my jaw dropped down and tears running down my face. How beautiful the song and how talented the vocalists! Fanny Crosby certainly was an annointed song writer. Thank you so much for sharing Linda!

I'm always amazed at the number of hymns that have two separate listings in the hymnal with completely different melodies. I love the way the Martin's intertwined them like that...beautiful!
