June Bug - A Heart-Grabber

I had been awaiting the release of Chris Fabry's June Bug with both eager anticipation and nervous expectation. His books are compelling and heart-wrenching, and I find myself leaving a bit of my own heart between the pages. And oh, I was not disappointed. I was a bit nervous as I read it because much is unexplained until the book is almost concluded, and I wasn't sure if the book would include some unsettling experiences or behavior/abuse. Without giving a spoiler, let me reassure you that there is nothing unseemly or inappropriate that occurs between June Bug and her daddy. This is a beautiful story of pain and despair redeemed by love and grace, and a reminder that, while sometimes it takes a long time to come to fruition, God is weaving circumstances together behind the scenes. And sometimes the one we think we are rescuing ends up rescuing us.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
June Bug believed everything her daddy told her. That is, until she walked into Wal-Mart and saw her face on a list of missing children. The discovery begins a quest for the truth about her father, the mother he rarely speaks about, and ultimately herself. A modern interpretation of Les Miserables, the story follows a dilapidated RV rambling cross-country with June Bug and her father, a man running from a haunted past. Forces beyond their control draw them back to Dogwood, West Virginia, down a winding path that will change their lives forever.
