Another Year is Dawning

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

"Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years"
Genesis 1:14

Another year is dawning!
Dear Father, let it be,
In working or in waiting,
Another year with Thee;
Another year of leaning
Upon Thy loving breast;
Another year of trusting,
Of quiet, happy rest;

Another year of mercies,
Of faithfulness and grace;
Another year of gladness
In the shining of Thy face;
Another year of progress,
Another year of praise;
Another year of proving
Thy presence all the days;

Another year of service,
Of witness for Thy love;
Another year of training
For holier work above.
Another year is dawning!
Dear Father, let it be
On earth, or else in heaven,
Another year for Thee.

WORDS: Frances R. Havergal, 1874
MUSIC: Samuel Wesley, 1864

(Click on Frances R. Havergal's name above to read a brief biography of this prolific hymnwriter. She was only 43 when she died, yet she had written 80 hymns and memorized much of the New Testament, as well as the Psalms and Isaiah!)

Blessings to you on this first day of 2010!

Hi Linda, this is a nice refreshing post for New Year's Day. I had forgotten about that song.

Thank you for peeking in on my Random 13. (I have a January 1 post up now if you wish to return.)

I do hope your procedure turns out with no 'negative finds' this Tuesday. I am glad you are doing this, I also hope it isn't under duress from your body.
I will pray for you and the medical people.

I knew this as a poem and have never heard it as a hymn, Funny that, since Samuel Wesley wrote the music for it! I have been attending United Methodist Churches for years!

Happy New Year, Linda. May God hold you and your family in the palm of his hand throughout 2010, guiding and providing comfort every moment of every day.

Blessings Linda, Perfect song for welcoming in the year 2010! Beautiful words and message! Much to live up to as we honor Our LORD as Frances in her short life. Either she wrote many hymns as they quickly filled her or
because she memorized God's Word, He filled her so much through His Spirit that she just overflowed in the Gift of song writing!!! Thank You LORD for the gifts in the body of Christ...and thank you Linda for sharing the gifted ones. Let it be and may God be with you!
