MY THOUGHTS:
This Fine Life captures the essence of the late 1950's and early 1960's and a young couple trying to find their way in life and in love. Romance and roses give way to discouragement and dishes as Mariette and Thayne find themselves transplanted to a a tiny town in the deep South where everyone knows everyone else's business. Tender and poignant, this book is an apt depiction of marital tenacity in an age when folks took marriage vows seriously and stuck it out "for better or for worse." Mariette's struggles -- to find friends, to meet expectations, and to understand her husband's passion for God -- are expertly portrayed.
