Melody Carlson has written more than 200 books for teens, women, and children. Before publishing, Melody traveled around the world, volunteered in teen ministry, taught preschool, raised two sons, and worked briefly in interior design and later in international adoption. “I think real-life experiences inspire the best fiction,” she says. Her wide variety of books seem to prove this theory.

Melody Carlson's new On the Runway series is off to a great start with Premiere. As sisters in their late teen years, Paige and Erin Forrester share a last name and a home with their widowed mom in Hollywood, but that's essentially where the similarities end. Paige lives and breathes fashion, but Erin prefers to kick back in her comfy, if unstylish, clothes. When they are unexpectedly offered their own fashion show, Paige is giddy with delight while Erin is less than enthused. They must learn to recognize and accept each other's unique gifts as they embark on this new venture.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are credibly portrayed; Erin and Paige are typical sisters, driving each other crazy one moment and standing up for each other the next. Erin is a new Christian and wants to be a good witness to Paige and their Mom as well as others she meets. Her inner struggles as she wrestles with what it means to follow God in her daily life give a realistic picture of what it means to be a Christian in an unbelieving world. Toss in a jealous and "mean girl" starlet/diva, a hunky actor that Paige falls for, and Erin's ex-and-hoping-to-be-reinstated-boyfriend, and the resulting unscripted drama provides plenty of angst for all involved! My girl just came and confiscated claimed this book for her own; I know she will enjoy this new series.
