Heaven is for Real for Kids
A Little Boy's Astounding Story of His Trip to Heaven and Back
as told by Colton Burpo
to his parents
Todd & Sonja Burpo
(Thomas Nelson)
ISBN:978-1400318704
November 2011/$14.99/Hardcover/32 pages

Colton Burpo came back from his trip to heaven with a very important message: Jesus really, really loves children. In an effort to reach even more families with this eternally significant story, this runaway bestseller is now told from Colton—kid to kids! Children will receive the same comfort and assurance that so many adults have received from the trade book.
Beautifully illustrated under Colton's direction, he shares his experiences in first person and comments on things that will be important to kids. A letter to parents is included to guide them as they talk to their children about heaven. Scripture along with a Q&A section with answers from the Bible are also included in the book.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Todd Burpo is the pastor of Crossroads Wesleyan Church in Imperial, Nebraska (Population: 1,762) where his sermons are broadcast locally every Sunday via the local radio station. In emergencies Todd can be found working shoulder-to-shoulder with the Imperial Volunteer Fire Department as a fire fighter. He is also the chaplain for the Nebraska State Volunteer Firefighter's Association. In addition, Todd works with an overhead door company. Todd graduated from Oklahoma Wesleyan University in 1991 summa cum laude with a BA in Theology. He was ordained in 1994.

Sonja Burpo is a busy mom to Cassie, Colton (now 12), and Colby and works for a local real estate company. With a BS in Elementary Education from Oklahoma Wesleyan University and a Masters in Library and Information Science, Sonja is a certified teacher in the state of Nebraska. She has taught in the public school system both in Oklahoma as well as in Imperial. Sonja is passionate about children's ministry and helping women through the difficulty of miscarriage.

MY THOUGHTS:
I have not read the original book but am familiar with Colton's basic experience. I was curious to see how it would be portrayed for children, so I was pleased to have an opportunity to review this book. It is well-done with simple wording and beautiful pictures. The book is full of joy and hope, and the circumstances surrounding Colton's illness that led to his heavenly visit are handled very well and not frightening. I particularly appreciated the Scriptures on each page accompanying Colton's descriptions that provide the Biblical description of each aspect of heaven which he describes.

Find out more and read an excerpt of the original book at the website and be sure to click on the link for the kid's page for an excerpt of this book as well as downloadable coloring pages.

The great thing about this series is that it IS different. God uses so many people of so many walks of life and whose to say whether a helmet or a bonnet will reach the person on the street or in the pew or that the bookstore who is needing God at that very moment. I LOVED both books and can't wait for the third!!!!
