Hurting With The Chapmans

UPDATE: The Chapmans have set up a blog in memory of Maria where folks can express their condolences. It contains a precious, precious fun video of Steve & Maria recently goofing around washing dishes!

As we remember Steven Curtis Chapman and his family in our prayers as they are facing unimaginable grief, this song of his gives words to the cries of our hearts.

  5. Great song to balance the heartache, Linda.

The SCC song I've been thinking about all day is the song he wrote a few years back for some close friends of theirs who experienced the death of a daughter. It's called "With Hope."

This is not at all how
We thought it was supposed to be
We had so many plans for you
    We had so many dreams
    And now you've gone away
And left us with the memories of your smile
    And nothing we can say
    And nothing we can do
    Can take away the pain
The pain of losing you, but ...

    We can cry with hope
We can say goodbye with hope
'Cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no
And we can grieve with hope
    'Cause we believe with hope
    (There's a place by God's grace)
There's a place where we'll see your face again
    We'll see your face again

(Longest comment ever, but the rest of the lyrics are here.)

  6. PinkGirl had just crawled into my bed for a snuggle while the alarm clock radio played our local contemporary Christian station and the DJs announced this tragedy and asked for prayer. Afterward, I talked with PinkGirl and reminded her why I always hold her hand in parking lots and when we walk behind vehicles. I often show her how the bottom of the back window is higher than the top of her head and explain that the drivers can't see her because she is so little. I'm going to keep holding that little hand - probably until she's taller than me.
