Our church partners with a church in Progreso (right on the border at the very tip of Texas) through Buckner Services Rio Grande Valley and makes a couple of mission trips a year down there for building projects, VBS, and other ministry. A group of mostly high school youth leaves early Saturday morning for a week. They needed another woman to go and as of this past Monday, I will fill that slot.
My girl is beside herself because she is a year too young to go, since she's on the wrong side of 8th grade, so to speak, but now that I'm going, she gets to go. She has been dying to do this.
I have actually never been on a mission trip before. Visiting my sister when she was a Journeyman in Guatemala 30 years ago doesn't count and was not the happiest of experiences.
But I am looking forward to this and feel like this is something God is leading me to do. My one hesitation? Migraines. One of my triggers of these horrific headaches is the sun. It only takes being outside for about 15 minutes and the hammering starts. Fortunately, VBS is at the community center in the morning. (Which as of yesterday, I apparently seem to be overseeing. Hmmm. Stress - another trigger!) And I've told our Youth Minister I need an indoor job in the afternoons as well.
Any prayers you offer on my behalf will be much appreciated! It's hard to minister to other people when you feel like your head's about to crack open. How that little sledgehammer gets in there is beyond me. . . .
I have some blog posts scheduled while I am gone, including a Book Tour with 2 giveaways! I'd hate for the blog boogeymen to think this site was totally vacant! (And no, I'm not skipping out just because you now know what I look like!)
Hasta la vista. . . I'll be back! Don't have too much fun without me.
OH Linda...I will be on my knees for you and the rest of your youth group. I love the enthusiasm in your sweet daughter's heart to help others!

ReplyDeleteI have often longed for a little melonballer type thingy that I could just scoop my brains out when my head hurt too much. That and my do-it-yourself hysterectomy kit. I figure either one of those things would be a lifesaver.
