Random Dozen

1. Do you use the labels various charities send you as “free gifts?”

Absolutely. Without guilt. I didn't ask for them, but I see no point in throwing them away. Ones that have the organization's logo or name usually get trimmed, if possible, or I might toss those out. Depending on what the organization is.

2. What is your favorite time of day (or night) for skywatching?

I'm not a big skywatcher, but I do love sunsets. Sunrises are nice, too, except they generally happen at a ridiculous time! Although one of my favorite memories is watching the sun come up over the Grand Canyon about 25 years ago.

3. What is the most adventurous you've ever been with trying a new food? (Keep it G-rated please)

Oh, I am soooo not an adventurous eater, but that would have to be our 15th anniversary in 2003, when we went to this high-falutin' restaurant and got an appetizer sampler which had rattlesnake, duck, venison, and maybe reindeer. I don't remember much about it except I was underwhelmed. My man ate most of it! For my entree I got a good ol' beef tenderloin filet!

4. Have you ever heard a rock sing? (Trust me, there's a reason for this one!)

Um, noooo. I never had a pet rock, either. Besides, I don't think they were animated. But that Grand Canyon sunrise comes pretty close! It's in the "all creation sings" category!

5. If you could learn a language you don't presently speak, what would it be?

I'd like to master Spanish. I took 2 years in high school and that was it. I was pretty good at it, but there wasn't room in my schedule to keep on with it.

6. Al Capone's tombstone read, “My Jesus, Mercy.” If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?

Our family pretty much just does the basic name & dates on the tombstones. But if I were to have more, I'd probably choose the words of a hymn - maybe Be Thou My Vision, Blessed Assurance, or Great is Thy Faithfulness.

7. If you were a famous musician who was known by one name, like “Cher,” “Sting,” or “Jewel,” what would it be? It doesn’t have to be your first name, but it can be, if you’d like.

Ted, of course!

8. Have you ever been inordinately “into” a television show?

St. Elsewhere, Chicago Hope, and ER - until ER started getting even more ultra-liberal and weird. I obviously love medical shows! I taped those and rarely missed an episode.

9. When you sneeze, do you go big, or do you do that weird “heenh!” sound that makes people think you’re going to blow your brains out? Any other variation we should know about?

I usually do a normal, full-blown sneeze. (That pun was totally spontaneous - didn't realize it was a pun until mid-type! I'm just so witty like that! Ahem.) Regarding "variations", let's just say sneezes can be kind of dangerous for women over 40! (It kinda puts a damper on the moment!)

10. Do you still read an actual newspaper that you hold in your hands, or do you get your news elsewhere?

My man gets the Wall Street Journal, but that's it. We canceled the local paper years ago because we were so tired of the liberal slant.

11. Are you a good speller?

Absolootely! Actually, spelling is one of my strong points.

12. At what time each day do you start thinking about Lost lunch?

Well, as long as you don't want to know if I Lost my lunch! I usually think about it at breakfast, because if I think lunch will be late, I have to eat enough protein at breakfast to avoid a migraine. But otherwise, I usually eat around 11:30 or so.

  1. Absolootely! LOL

I don't have spelling issues as much as I have "pay-attention" issues and typos. Today I was trying to explain to someone that we live in fully furnished staff housing, including linens, and I wrote lennons!

  8. I feel the same way about those "free gifts."

I liked each of those medical shows in their day.

And I'm afraid I'm all too familiar with the over-40 side effects of sneezing!!

  10. So you are into Medical shows, that was a surprise. I took Latin in high school which is a dead language so that could explain why I'm not good with languages. Interesting answers!

  11. Loved your answer to # 4...think you might be getting at what they were trying to get at, but don't know!

I watched ER earlier on - Anthony Edwards & George Clooney, then gave it up for the same reasons and got hooked again during the last season. Love having a DVR so you can watch your addictions on your own terms.

Yes, I'm barely over 40, but understand! I'm glad my mother never told me about this stuff.

  12. I'd forgotten about St. Elsewhere -- what a great show that was!

Your answer about creation singing was awesome -- and very close to what I was thinking about. How all of creation sings His name. But in specific, I was talking about Luke 19 when Jesus tells the Pharisees that if the crowd was quiet, the stones would speak (sing)...

Love the way you crack yourself up with puns. I do that all the time and my family says, "yeah, okay" while I'm laughing so hard!

And love, love the DAMPER! HA HA!!!

  14. LOL at # 9. I don't know if I would have been brave enough to try rattlesnake, duck, venison, and reindeer, Just the thought of the animal makes me cringe.

  15. Fun answers! I don't have the sneezing problem yet, but I don't know why. I'm sure I'll be experiencing it soon enough!

  20. Al Capone's Tombstone really says that? Who would have known!

I saw the sunrise, and sunset over the Grand Canyon a few years ago and it too was one of my most memorable skywatching events!
