A couple of days ago I was picking up some sheet music for my girl and decided to browse a bit. As I was looking through the sheet music in the sacred section, I stumbled across this old song. I haven't thought about it in years! I sure didn't expect there to be any recordings on YouTube, but I was pleasantly surprised. There were a variety of arrangements from which to choose, from The Lennon Sisters to the Blind Boys of Alabama. I particularly liked the following rendition of an ordinary man singing it as a solo in a regular church service. This song was written in the 1950s and popular throughout the 1960s. Enjoy!
HE
by Richard Mullen and Jack Richards
He can turn the tides
And calm the angry sea.
He alone decides
Who writes a symphony.
He lights ev'ry star
That makes our darkness bright.
He keeps watch all through
Each long and lonely night.
He still finds the time
To hear a child's first prayer.
Saint or sinner call
And always find Him there.
Though it makes him sad
To see the way we live,
He'll always say, "I forgive."
He can grant a wish
Or make a dream come true.
He can paint the clouds
And turn the gray to blue.
He alone knows where
To find the rainbow's end.
He alone can see
What lies beyond the bend.
He can touch a tree
And turn the leaves to gold.
He knows every lie
That you and I have told.
Though it makes him sad
To see the way we live,
He'll always say, "I forgive."

I don't recall ever hearing this song before a couple of days ago when I stumbled across it on a blog I had never previously visited. I thought it was lovely, and now here you are sharing it again.
Song this song many times!!!! Love it.
Oh yes... I know every word by heart. However, it's been years since I've even thought of that song. Thanks for sharing it today!
Hugs!

This brings back memories...I used to sing and play this one years and years ago...the words are as beautiful as ever!
A song from a long time ago. I had to chuckle when you referred to the Lennon Sisters. How I remember my parents and grandparents watched that TV show every week on Saturday night I think.
Blessings,
Debbie

Hi Linda,
It's a precious reminder that God is in control of everything! The sovereignty of God and His great mercies to lost sinners like us always amazes me and how He watches over us daily, hears our prayers and gives me tokens of His love and mercies. Praise Him!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. It's nice to hear from you. Take care and have a blessed week.
Warm regards,
Nancie
You know, I don't think I've ever actually sung this song, but I'm very familiar with it. The lyrics are quite astounding and so full of precious truths. Thanks for bringing it back up!
That was great, Linda. The lyrics are beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing it.
Hi Linda, I have been looking for this version of HE. I sang it in Middle School and it has helped me during many troubled times since then. Unfortunately my sheet music was lost during my last move and now I can't find this version anywhere. Do you know the person who preformed it so I can find out where it was purchased? Maria
