I started listening to some old songs by Keith Green and I couldn't stop! He's one of the musicians that I associate with my high school days. I wasn't a huge fan, but I still remember the exact spot where I was--driving to my summer job--when I heard he had been killed in a plane crash along with two of his children, another family, and the pilot. Now that I'm older I truly realize what a treasure of songs he left for us. I love this song's reassurance that even when we go through times when we don't feel as passionate as others, His grace holds us secure in the palm of His hand.
GRACE BY WHICH I STAND
Words & Music by Keith Green
Lord, the feelings are not the same
I guess I’m older
I guess I’ve changed
And how I wish it had been explained
That as you’re growing
You must remember
That nothin’ lasts except the grace of God
By which I stand in Jesus
I know that I would surely fall away
Except for the grace by which I’m saved
Lord, I remember that special way
I vowed to serve You
When it was brand new
But like Peter I can’t even watch and pray
One hour with You
And I bet I could deny you too
Well nothin' lasts except the grace of God
By which I stand in Jesus
I know that I would surely fall away
Except for Grace by which I'm saved
Well nothin' lasts except the grace of God
By which I stand in Jesus
I'm sure that my whole life would waste away
Except for grace by which I'm saved
And this is one of the most beautiful praise hymns ever written, I think.
THERE IS A REDEEMER
Words & Music by Melody Green
There is a Redeemer,
Jesus, God's own Son,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Holy One,
Jesus my Redeemer,
Name above all names,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Oh, for sinners slain.
Thank you oh my Father,
For giving us Your Son,
And leaving Your Spirit
'Til the work on Earth is done.
When I stand in Glory,
I will see His face,
And there I'll serve my King forever,
In that Holy Place.
Thank you oh my Father,
For giving us Your Son,
And leaving Your Spirit,
'Til the work on Earth is done.
There is a Redeemer,
Jesus, God's own Son,
Precious Lamb of God, Messiah,
Holy One,
Thank you oh my Father,
For giving us Your Son,
And leaving Your Spirit
'Til the work on Earth is done.
And leaving Your Spirit
'Til the work on Earth is done.

I love both of these songs! In fact, my praise team at church just sang There is a Redeemer a few weeks ago! What great messages these both have... wow!
ReplyDeleteI'm a brand new follower on your blog! :-)

I feel in love with Keith Green's music on a road trip in a borrowed car. It was one of the CDs stuck in the visor. When I got home I searched online so I could buy the album, and discovered it was not to be had and Keith Green was dead. I sat and cried as if I'd known him and the accident had just occurred, his music touched me that much.
ReplyDeleteGreat songs!!
ReplyDeleteThe first song `Grace By Which I stand` had me in tears.
Both songs fit where I am at in my walk with Jesus.
I was listening to Keith Green just last night. So many great songs and proof that what God does through us will continue to bless others even after we're gone.
ReplyDeleteOh...There is a Redeemer....there is a reason why they call Oldies Goldies..and this is why!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing
Have a blessed day

Awesome songs. With wonderful meaning.
ReplyDeleteOh, oh, oh, Keith Green was just my very favorite. My heart still just fills to overwhelming when I hear "There Is A Redeemer." Thanks for bringing this wonderful song and memory to mind this morning. I feel as though I have just worshiped our Lord after listening to that song.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
I love Keith Green's music, too. Such a shame that he couldn't stay down here even longer to create more music. I wonder what he is singing today. Thanks for sharing his blessings.
ReplyDeleteI love Keith Green's music too. I enjoyed both songs. But I found myself smiling and singing along most with "There is a Redeemer". I love the words to that song especially the chorus. Yes, we have His Spirit within us until our work on earth is done and He takes us home to be with Him forever. How amazing is that?
ReplyDeleteBlessings and love,

ReplyDeleteI'm a little behind schedule due to technical difficulties :), but now following you from "Then Sings My Soul Saturday"! Love both songs....and also remember when Keith Green was killed. Wow, funny how a song (and the sound of his voice) can quickly transport you back in time!
