TSMSS - Moment by Moment

Some precious friends just found out that their son has cancer. Hymns are such a beautiful solace during difficult times, and this one has touched my heart as I pray for them.

MOMENT BY MOMENT

Dying with Jesus, by death reckoned mine;
Living with Jesus, a new life divine;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine,
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

Refrain:
Moment by moment I’m kept in His love;
Moment by moment I’ve life from above;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine;
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

Never a trial that He is not there,
Never a burden that He doth not bear,
Never a sorrow that He doth not share,
Moment by moment, I’m under His care
.
Never a heartache, and never a groan,
Never a teardrop, and never a moan;
Never a danger but there on the throne,
Moment by moment He thinks of His own.

Never a weakness that He doth not feel,
Never a sickness that He cannot heal;
Moment by moment, in woe or in weal,
Jesus my Savior abides with me still.

WORDS: Major Daniel M. Whittle, 1893
MUSIC: Mary Whittle Moody, 1893

  2. Thanks for reminding me of that comforting hymn. Prayers for the boy with cancer--there's so much of the C disease everywhere, an epidemic it seems.

  3. There are times when you live "one day at a time" and other times when you lean on Jesus "moment by moment". Praying with you.

  4. I too will add your friends son to my prayers today. Such an awful thing to face. I haven't heard this hymn in ages and I always loved it...thanks for sharing.

    I love hymns...the church we attend here does mostly contemporary music in the service we usually attend but they always sing one hymn too which makes my heart glad.

    Praying for your friend and their family. Cancer is always something that is so scary and for a little one to have it is even scarier!

  8. I am also a lover of hymns....often when going through difficult times, it is a hymn that comes to mind and ministers to my heart! So thankful that I go to a church that incorporates more comtemporary music in with traditional, and teaches the classic hymns to my children through the Children's Music Ministry.....I feel it's an important part of our Christian heritage that I want to pass on to them!
    Blessings to you & have a wonderful Saturday!!

  9. How sorry I am for you and your friends with the news of the cancer. Praying for his healing.

    This hymn has such beautiful lyrics and promises from our Lord. We are so blessed that he never leaves us alone in our troubles but stays right beside us.

  10. I too am hearing news of more friend and acquaintances with cancer and other health concerns. Only yesterday I heard news that the son-in-law of the pastor of a church I've been attending (since our move) was found dead in bed. He was 27 years old!

    Hymns are so calming and helpful. This one reminds me of my mother. She played the piano by ear. There was always piano music playing in our home growing up and often my mom was playing the old hymns.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie
