Joyce From This Side of the Pond stopped her Mardi
1. The season of Lent begins on March 9th this year...do you participate and if so, in what way?
I grew up Southern Baptist. The only Lent we had was in our dryer.
(Yes, I know it's spelled differently!)
2. Traditionally pancakes are eaten on the day known as Shrove Tuesday which is the last day before Lent (March 8th this year). So....butter and syrup? Blueberry? Chocolate chip? ewww, no thanks!! What's your pleasure when it comes to eating pancakes?
I prefer waffles to pancakes. If I'm going to have pancakes, I highly prefer them to be IHOP's Harvest Grain 'n Nut Pancakes. With plenty of butter and regular syrup.
3. Spring is coming. (It is coming, right?) What's your favorite springtime flower and do you suffer from seasonal allergies? Two questions I know, but they're lightweights.
Texas bluebonnets, and mild.
4. "Our opinion of people depends less upon what we see in them than upon what they make us see in ourselves." Author unknown. Agree or Disagree? Why?
Somewhat agree. Because usually what bugs us in other people is simply our own faults.
5. Since it's "March" and also the season of Mardi Gras....have you ever been in a parade? What's the best parade you've seen?
Never been in one. Don't recall ever going to one. But I always loved the Tournament of Roses Parade on TV on New Year's Day. It's amazing what they can do with those flowers!
6. You would jump up and down and shout for joy right now if someone told you___________?
. . .it would make my back stop hurting forever.
7. How clean is your car on the outside? Inside? Is there junk in your trunk?
It drizzled the other day so it's pretty spotty. And a bird got a back side window Sunday. Inside, pretty pristine. Only thing "extra" is the reusable grocery bags I keep in the cargo space in the back.
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Helping someone through the Social Security Disability Application online process is not the simplest of activities. Add in a diagnosis of early Alzheimer's (them, not me!) and it's even more delightful. I hate it when you can't progress to the next screen if you don't have that screen completed correctly. Especially since each screen only has 3-5 questions. Can we not just go through the whole application and then have it flag what's missing when we're done? This starting, then stopping to find info, then repeat ad nauseum is not the most efficient way I've ever done something.
Oh, you said a random thought? Not a random gripe?! Oh well!
I didn't grow up with the Lenten tradition of giving something up, either. We had the tradition of service -- we gave our time to someone else. I think that is much more productive.
ReplyDeleteLove those bluebonnets! Seeing the Rose parade floats in person would be on my bucket list (if I had one)
ReplyDeleteDealing with anything 'governmental' is generally a pain! Good luck with that!
Well of course your vehicle is clean, it's brand new! Lucky you! haha
ReplyDeleteHope your back starts feeling better soon.
Filling out forms online is a pain anyway, and if it's something that the government design, even more so!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful Wednesday!
First of all, I grew up a Southern Baptist as well. That's why this Lent is so meaningful to me...I've paid Lent scant attention over the years. My Methodist church is doing a great job of bringing this tradition to the congregation's attention. This shows me that it doesn't matter what denomination you are. Getting close to God is the most important thing.
ReplyDeleteThe bluebonnets are beautiful!! I remember that we had morning glories when I was a child. I loved looking at them in the morning, when they opened up.
Your rant...I can identify. I do not understand why the government makes things so difficult!!!!
As I seem to comment here on your blog every spring: I miss the bluebonnets!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know a person could apply online for Social Security Disability.
ReplyDeleteI guess you can do just about anything online these days.
Like you answer to #1, I don't do lent either. The bluebonnets are lovely. Sorry about your back.
ReplyDeleteyou always make me laff ;)
ReplyDeleteLInda, you are hysterical! I'm SB too and loved your LENT comment.
ReplyDeleteAnd, I have tried the Harvest Grain and Nut pancakes at IHOP and I did like them. Guess I'm not so vanilla afterall.
I so agree with you "random" gripe! It's insane!
Happy rest of the week!
I so miss the blue bonnets. My mom and daughter are coming back that way for the butterfly festival again this year! unfortunately, I can't make it. :(
ReplyDeleteI hope your back starts feeling better soon. I still think you should try the massage...it might not help your back but it will make you feel better!!!
