Wednesday Hodgepodge

1. National Read a Road Map Day falls on April 5th. Would people say you have a good sense of direction? Do you rely on a GPS when you drive somewhere new? When was the last time you used a map?

I have a very good sense of direction and always have. When I was little I used to tell my mom that I had "a compass in my stomach." Which was a good thing because she was forever getting turned around and losing her car in the parking lot, having a hard time finding a street she wasn't very familiar with, etc. I frequently told her where to turn and how to get places.

Even now, if I don't know exactly where I'm going, I can sometimes "feel" my way there. Having said that, I definitely look things up on Google maps and I do enjoy having my navigation system and map right on the dashboard. Although I rarely turn on the directional aid. That highly annoys me. Especially when they tell me Every.Single.Turn several times. Or tell me how to get out of a parking lot.

2. What's your favorite cookbook?

I have several and they are all Southern Living. Probably the one I've used the most is The Ultimate Southern Living Cookbook.

3. What painting would you like to "walk into" and experience? Why?

I can't think of one off the top of my head, but a painting of a sprawling house with a big ol' front porch that has a nice swing and looks out on some big trees and a field of bluebonnets sounds good!

4. What annoys you more- misspellings or mispronunciations?

Misspellings. No question.

5. What is something your mother or father considered important?

Proper grammar, especially with pronouns. And proper behavior.

6. Do you like or dislike schedules?

Like. Except on Sunday afternoons. Or weekends in general (except for church).

7. Let's have some fun with National Poetry Month (that would be April)...write your own ending to this poem-

"Roses are Red
Violets are blue..."

Incidentally if you'd like to read the history behind that little ditty you'll find it here.

Last week was crazy
And this week is too!

8. Insert your own random thought in this space.

If you are in an auto accident that involves heavy seat belt restraints, airbags, and hard impact, even if you think you are not injured, do not feel silly about getting checked out. And go to a "real" hospital emergency room to do so. And if you have underlying medical conditions, say for example, osteoporosis, and you tell them that, be persistent that they check for internal injuries. Because two months later you may still be having pain and going to the doctor and getting scans and hearing unsettling possibilities about sternums and bruised hearts. Just sayin'. . . Randomly, of course.

  3. Oh dear...I hope everything is okay. You've had quite a time of it lately!

I love my Southern Living cookbooks too. And the HP is confirming my theory that people either have a sense of direction or they don't

    Take care!

  5. I have a feeling that if my children had to answer question #5, they would answer the same way as you!! LOL

I'm sorry about your accident and all that is happening because of it. Gentle hugs.

  6. That imaginary painting does sound idyllic!

You're the first I've seen who said she had a good sense of direction. I do love my GPS but do get annoyed at the repetition, too. Sometimes I wish it had a "pause" button.

Hope there is nothing major wrong and that the bruising will heal soon.

  10. Hope all is okay and that you will be fully recovered and pain free soon.

I agree, except for church weekends should be completely schedule free!

    Have a great week.

  11. I agree with #8. I was hit in the rear back in September, and had problems with my neck. My husband insisted that I have it checked out which everything turned out okay.
    Hope you get better soon.

  12. I was in a car accident in 2003 and still suffer shoulder pain. I did get checked out. The shoulder was dislocated. It isn't now, but the pain still persists. Once something is out of whack, it doesn't go back easily. I hope you heal soon!

  13. Oh! Sense of direction -- mine is lousy, but I always seem to "luck" into whatever I am looking for. I think God sends angels to guide me.

  14. Maybe it's the compass in your stomach that's causing the discomfort. teehee...
    Hope you're feeling better soon.
