Wow - apparently last week was #52 - Happy Anniversary to the Hodgepodge!
1. What song reminds you of a specific time in your life and what is it about that song that makes you remember?
Oh goodness, there are so many. Simon & Garfunkel's Sounds of Silence takes me back to the summer I turned 11 and spent a week with my brother and his wife. She worked and he took a week of vacation and we swam and played a million games of dominoes and ate watermelon and peanut butter sandwiches for lunch and went to the drive-in movie and played Putt-Putt. It was a time of sweet memories with my big brother, and we played the Simon & Garfunkel album a lot and that song always stuck in my head.
2. What's something you've given up on?
Expecting the world to get better.
3. What's something you'll never give up on?
My faith, in spite of #2.
4. If you had to cook something from scratch in the next hour what would it be?
Well, since I'm typing this at night, I shudder to think about cooking anything. But I cook most things from scratch, especially when I bake. The only thing I use a mix for is angel food cake because of the kabillion egg whites. So let's see, a late-night kitchen session would probably be chocolate chip cookies or brownies!
5. Have you started Christmas shopping? Decorating? Listening to Christmas music?
Negatory on the shopping and decorating. Yes on the Christmas music only because my girl plays it on the piano virtually year-round!
6. What do you know about your parent's wedding?
Well, I'm tempted to say that they had one and I wasn't there! But I do know a bit more than that! They married in my mom's church and the reception was in the backyard of her parents' home. The song that was sung was Always. But the one thing my mom always talked about was how solemn and serious my dad and his brother (the Best Man) were. Getting married was serious business. She really wanted him to smile, but she said they both stood up there the whole time and looked like they were pallbearers at a funeral! Once they got to the reception, she said, my dad was all smiles and talked and was happy. But he apparently didn't want anyone to think he was going into this marriage and not giving his vows the proper respect they deserved!
7. I can't believe I ___________________.
. . .had to miss most of Tamera Alexander's FB party last night. Anticipated it all day, and then computer glitches made a pre-area choir event for my girl run late. My man was tied up on a conference call with Japan, so I had to drive to the school where the event was and it was in the BOONIES! Got home about 15 minutes after the party was over. I was not a happy camper!
8. Insert your own random thought here.
Do they not teach grammar anymore? Or have copy editors at newspapers? The other day I saw a headline in the Wall Street Journal: "Whose Economy Has It Worst?" WORST?! That should be WORSE! or THE Worst! I know I'm a word nerd and a grammar snob, but this is the Wall Street Journal! We're not talking about some amateur neighborhood flyer printed in someone's garage!
Stepping back from the soapbox now. . .
Loved your random thought. We have a local newspaper in the town where I teach and we(my lunch bunch of teachers) thrive on finding errors in the paper....that common sense would tell you are errors.
ReplyDeleteSorry you missed a lot of the FB Party. I was there, but had a lot of trouble keeping up, so actually I missed a lot too. But it was fun anyway.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I think you're right on #2, but #3 will get us through!
Love the random thought. I don't think they teach grammar anymore!
ReplyDeleteGreetings to a fellow grammaticaster! I just HATE seeing misspelled words, improper use of punctuation, incorrect grammar, etc. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteAnd I agree with you on #2 - and #3. ;-)
Proper grammar is a must! So is correct spelling. Thank you auto correct highlighting my mistakes when I get in a hurry. ahaha. Great answers for number two and three. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, SusanD
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the grammar issue. It really annoys me too when so called professional outfits make mistakes like that. Grrr.....
ReplyDeleteCookies from scratch are fine with me. I'm sorry you missed the party - that really is sad :(
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree with you more on random thought answer. As an English teacher-grammar is a thing of the past-but not with me.
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you on the grammar issue! Seriously, bad grammar is EVERYWHERE!
ReplyDeleteI have started one bit of Christmas shopping but I rarely stop watching the movies and listening to the music!
