MY THOUGHTS:
I thoroughly enjoyed The Swiss Courier (my review is here) so I was pleased to see a second book about Gabi Mueller in the waning days of World War II. (However, Chasing Mona Lisa can be read as a stand-alone.) Since I am not an art aficionada, I had no knowledge of the historical backdrop of the French masterpieces such as the Mona Lisa being at risk before I read this book, and the premise fascinated me. I did get a little bogged down in some of the details of the story, and it was difficult for me to keep some of the many characters straight. That could have just been the timing when I read it; if I'm really tired, I just want to lose myself in a story and not think so hard. But the book did give me a deeper appreciation for the treasured work of the masters. I know that whenever I see the enigmatic smile of the famous Mona Lisa, I will wonder just what she saw during the tumultuous days of war!

I really really liked this book and am looking forward to reading more by these two.
ReplyDeleteI found myself looking up information about this time in history to see if the authors had their facts 'straight'. Of course, some things they tweaked to fit into the story or setting better- but it's *fiction*, even if it's historical fiction.
One who absolutely loves history will enjoy this book I think (like me!).
Thank you so much for having me on your blog! I really appreciate it!
