Two murders have rocked the city of Houston. Are they the work of a serial killer, or is a copycat trying to get away with murder?
That is the question facing Special Agent Bethany Sanchez, who is eager for her new assignment in violent crimes but anxious about meeting her new partner. Special Agent Thatcher Graves once arrested her brother, and he has a reputation for being a maverick. Plus, their investigative styles couldn’t be more opposite: he operates on instinct, while she goes by the book.
When hot leads soon fizzle out, their differences threaten to leave them deadlocked. But an attempt on their lives turns up the heat and brings them closer together, and a third victim might yield the clue that will help them zero in on a killer. This could be the case of their careers . . . if they can survive long enough to solve it.

MY THOUGHTS
I know when I pick up a book by DiAnn Mills that I won't be doing anything else until I finish it, and Deadlock indeed brought my day to its titular standstill! Mills never disappoints with her compelling romantic suspense novels that grip the reader from the opening scenes to the final page. I'm continually impressed by the depth of knowledge she possesses about FBI procedures, knowledge gleaned from thorough research and interviews with active and retired agents. As someone born and raised in Houston, the setting of these novels provides a personal connection and I can visualize many of the locations mentioned in the story. Equally gifted at character and plot development, Mills perfectly balances the relational and romantic with the suspenseful aspects of this and her other novels. The interactions between Bethany and Thatcher reflect the many complexities that impact their working and (potential) personal relationship--from the different ways they approach a case to their shared background regarding the arrest of Bethany's brother--and add depth to the story. Combined with the escalating suspense, the result is a riveting, read-in-one-sitting novel. Don't miss Deadlock, available now!
