How far will she go to follow her dreams?

The Civil War stole a father and brother from Faith Lindberg--as well as Royal Baxter, the man she wanted to marry. With only her grandfather left, she dreams of leaving Noble Springs, Missouri, and traveling west to Oregon to start a new life, away from the memories that haunt her. But first she must convince her grandfather to sell the family's mercantile and leave a town their family has called home for generations.

When Royal Baxter suddenly returns, Faith allows herself to hope that she and Royal will finally wed. But does he truly love her? Or will another man claim her heart?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Ann Shorey is the author of The Edge of Light, The Promise of Morning, and The Dawn of a Dream. She has also published selections in the Cup of Comfort series and in Chicken Soup for the Grandma's Soul. Shorey lives with her husband, Richard, in Oregon.

MY THOUGHTS:
Maybe it was the mercantile. Or the wagging tongues of some of the folks in Noble Springs, Missouri. But the setting of this wonderful story reminded me just a bit of Little Town on the Prairie, my all-time favorite series from childhood. So many great characters populate this novel. Faith's grandfather is adorable; I love the contrast between his feisty nature and his soft heart! Rosemary Saxton has such a kind and tender heart as well, and it's amazing that society of the times had such a negative and harsh view of her altruism during the Civil War. Her brother Curt, the doctor, the ready-to-give-advice checker players, and others all contribute to the town's charm. Yet although the story takes place more than a century ago, the challenges with which Faith wrestles are as contemporary as the latest tech gadget: faith, hope, and love.

Hi Linda,
I signed up previously for this contest ~*~ would like to read this book! Historical Fiction is my favorite! I have often wondered what those big old oak trees on the hill behind our Missouri house have seen during the Civil War! I thought of that when I read Susan Meissner's "A Sound Among the Trees."
