Unless you attend a church that recites a creed weekly as part of its worship rituals, it may have been a while since you've really thought specifically about the details of your spiritual beliefs. And even those who do recite such creeds can find themselves simply rotely reciting the words without really paying attention.
Yet how important it is, especially in this world of political correctness and the increasing sense that "all beliefs are created equal" to know what and why we believe.
Steve Green recorded a beautiful song almost 20 years ago simply titled We Believe. I love the simplicity of its beginning and the way it builds as the song progresses. And the theology is rock solid.
I really liked the pictures on this version, but initially I was disappointed that the lyrics on the screen weren't in English. However, the longer I watched it, the more I realized how perfectly it illustrates the truths of the song, especially the first line of the 3rd verse: We believe in the Spirit who makes believers one, as well as the song's wonderful ending. To see such evidence of this blew me away, and brought to mind these words from Revelation:
And they sang a new song:
"You are worthy to take the scroll
and to open its seals,
because You were slain,
and with Your blood You purchased men for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.
You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth."
Revelation 5:9-10
After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice:"Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb."
Revelation 7:9-10
WE BELIEVE We believe in the Father, who created all that is
And we believe the universe and all therein is His
As a loving heavenly Father, He yearned to save us all
To lift us from the fall . . . We believe
We believe in Jesus the Father's only Son
Existing uncreated before time had begun
A sacrifice for sin, He died then rose again
To ransom sinful men, We believe
We believe in the Spirit who makes believers one
Our hearts are filled with His presence
The Comforter has come
The kingdom unfolds in His plan
Unhindered by quarrels of man
His church upheld by His hand . . . We believe
Though the earth be removed
And time be no more
These truths are secure
God's word shall endure
Whatever may change, these things are sure . . . We believe
So if the mountains are cast down into the plains
When kingdoms all crumble, this one remains
Our faith is not subject to seasons of man
With our fathers we proclaim
We believe our Lord will come as he said
The land and the sea will give up their dead
His children will reign with Him as their head
We believe
We believe

This was beautiful Linda. The words are so true. I haven't heard that song for a long time. I always know I can visit you on Saturday and find songs I love. I love all kinds but I guess I favor some of the older songs of the faith. Maybe I'm showing my age.
That was so very beautiful, Linda, Thanks for sharing it.
very nice post and what a great song
Amen!!
Hi Linda,
Lisa passed on your sweet message. My life has gotten so crazy lately. I have sadly neglected my blogging. I have missed my Saturday Worship Time but have opted for spending a little extra time with my daughter.
I hope to get back in the swing of it soon.
:-)
