TSMSS - A Song of Comfort

Thank you so much for your sweet words of love and encouragement and for your prayers this week. I am overwhelmed and touched by the way God has bound our hearts together in this blogging community, even though most of us have never met in person.

As family and friends gather today to praise God for the gift of my mom's life, this song will be sung at her service. Ironically, this was the first song I ever posted for TSMSS way back in April, and I even talked about my mom in that post. This was a favorite song of hers, and it has become such a dear song to me as well. What a comfort it is to know that His love will never let us go!

O LOVE THAT WILT NOT LET ME GO

O Love that wilt not let me go,
I rest my weary soul in thee;
I give thee back the life I owe,
That in thine ocean depths its flow
May richer, fuller be.

O Light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in thy sunshine’s blaze its day
May brighter, fairer be.

O Joy that seekest me through pain,
I cannot close my heart to thee;
I trace the rainbow through the rain,
And feel the promise is not vain,
That morn shall tearless be.

O Cross that liftest up my head,
I dare not ask to fly from thee;
I lay in dust life’s glory dead,
And from the ground there blossoms red
Life that shall endless be.

Words: George Matheson, 1882
Music: Albert Peace, 1884

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Oh my word. I am in tears after hearing that song. I think that is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. And, what a beautiful job he did singing it.
Your mother must have been a very Godly woman for that to have been her favorite.

The beautiful old hymns strike a deeper chord in us as we get older simply because our depth of understanding has grown with life's experiences.
Linda, I am so sorry for your loss. At the same time, I rejoice with your mom. She is in heaven, with a transformed body, looking at Jesus face-to-face.
May you all know His comfort in the coming time.
Love, Sita

The first time I heard of this is through TMSS and it truly truly touched my heart. It became one of my favorite - a song I sing throughout the day. Thank you for posting this once again.

I just stopped by to see where you've been. I was afraid it was something like this. I'm so sorry for your loss, but so happy for your mom to have received her reward! I know her crown is heavy-laden with jewels, but her new body is strong enough to wear it!

Praying for you and those she left behind. It's never easy, even when we know where they've gone.

Bless you and your family.
