Breaking News

You are most likely familiar with the well-known poem that begins. . . .
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

I like the ending of the poem which says . . .
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Well, I'm practicing.

And I don't just mean the background of my blog.

Lovely, isn't it? And I don't even have a fun story to tell.

Walking across the foyer at church on my way into the service yesterday morning, as my left foot completed its normal flexing, I heard a distinct crackle like all of my knuckles had popped at once. As the day went on, the limping and swelling increased, the ability to bear weight decreased, and I decided I better have it checked out. When they say you have a "spiral fracture" in your foot, it sure sounds pretty. But it doesn't feel even remotely that way.

So I'm in a cast for a month and on crutches for a week. Next week I can start putting some weight on it. And that will be a vast improvement. Because you can't carry a cup of coffee (or anything else!) with crutches.

Meanwhile, I'm rethinking the need to read the book on Brokenness that I started last week.

Oh I feel your pain, I hate crutches!! My daughter has a purple cast on also, and crutches for 6 weeks, I will keep you in my prayers.

So sorry Linda! The purple is fab though :)

Crutches are the invention of a sick and twisted person. I have used more than my fair share of them, and I will be praying for armpit strength and balance!

At least your cast is a cool color...

Ouch! I broke my foot two years ago and was non weight bearing for 8 weeks. I used a scooter made for that purpose. I propped my knee on the 'seat' and it had a little basket in front. (I could go fast in Target LOL) I hate crutches too. They scare me. I hope you're back to weight bearing soon!

(I wanted hot pink for mine, but all they had was white.)

I do not understand how this happened. Have you had your bone density checked? My son jumped off of our sofa when he was two and got a spiral break--not good, Lid. What is going on in your bones?

I'm with 2nd cup of coffee on this one! What did the doc say about your bones and/or the cause of this?

Whatever the answer - BUMMER. And to "curl up" with a good book doesn't even look possible. :(
