TSMSS - What Really Matters

I've had this song on my mind all week. I was reminded of it during this week's Spectacular Sins study as I pondered how lives are preserved by my faith. Then I read & reviewed Rachel's Tears and was overwhelmed by this teenager's testimony and the impact her life is still having a decade after her tragic death in the Columbine school shooting. And with my own mother's death almost 6 months ago, I have recently experienced the "sifting through all that's left behind."

This has always been one of my favorite Steve Green songs. But as the years continue to roll by, it becomes even more meaningful as I long for my footsteps to lead my children, and others who cross my path, closer to Christ. Oh, may all who come behind us Find Us Faithful!

Here is Steve Green singing it on the Gaither Vocal Band Reunion, Volume 2 DVD. Right after the camera pans across Gloria Gaither (at about 1:47), the man in the blue flowered shirt is Jon Mohr, who wrote the song. He and Steve Green were in the very first GVB together back in the early 1980's.

FIND US FAITHFUL

We're pilgrims on the journey
Of the narrow road
And those who've gone before us line the way
Cheering on the faithful, encouraging the weary
Their lives a stirring testament to God's sustaining grace

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses
Let us run the race not only for the prize
But as those who've gone before us
Let us leave to those behind us
The heritage of faithfulness
Passed on through godly lives

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
May the fire of our devotion light their way
May the footprints that we leave
Lead them to believe
And the lives we live inspire them to obey
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful

After all our hopes and dreams have come and gone
And our children sift through all we've left behind
May the clues that they discover
And the memories they uncover
Become the light that leads them
To the road we each must find

Repeat Chorus Twice

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful

That is a neat song, Linda and makes us think about some things. Steve Green does have a great voice. I have a hymn on my blog that he sings with no music! Thanks for sharing that with us today.
