MY THOUGHTS

Janice Thompson is my go-to author when I need a book guaranteed to make me smile. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and Every Bride Has Her Day is a delightful finale brimming with all things bridal and romantic. Amidst the satin and lace, Thompson skillfully portrays the tension and conflict that can arise during the planning of the Big Day when too many opinions wreak havoc on a bride's peace of mind as well as her relationships with friends and family. The depiction of the pain experienced by the perpetually single friend who is "always a bridesmaid" evokes sympathy and adds authenticity. Once again, the setting varies between Dallas and Katie's hometown of Fairfield, Texas, and the juxtaposition of metropolitan elegance and small-town charm creates multiple opportunities for humor as well as misunderstandings, and the pages turn as rapidly as the miles fly by on the interstate between the two locations. Every Bride Has Her Day is the the perfect read for the summer wedding season; add it--as well as the two previous books in the series--to your reading list today!

MY THOUGHTS

Janice Thompson's novels are pure fun. I loved the first Brides with Style novel, Every Bride Needs a Groom (my review is here), and this one is just as charming. While Every Girl Gets Confused can be read as a stand-alone, it is that much more enjoyable having read the first one. Katie is adorable, and I appreciate her love and commitment to her family--with all of its eccentricities--even as she enjoyed the bit of distance and independence that moving the almost-ninety miles to Dallas gave her. Janice Thompson once again delights with this romance filled with engaging characters (no pun intended!) and brimming with Texas-sized love and laughter. Don't miss it!

Every Bride Needs a Groom

Every Bride Needs a Groom
A Brides with Style Novel
Janice Thompson
(Revell)
ISBN:978-0800723996
April 2015/368 pages/$13.99

Somewhere in a sea of tulle and taffeta, satin and crepe, Katie Fisher needs to find a key ingredient of the perfect wedding--the groom.

Small-town girl Katie Fisher is busy planning her fairy-tale wedding. Sure, her boyfriend hasn't managed to pop the question just yet, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't enter a contest in Texas Bride magazine to win the dress of her dreams, right? Anyway, she's sure he'll be getting down on one knee any time now. And a one-of-a-kind designer dress doesn't just fall out of the sky right when you need it.

But when Katie's boyfriend takes a job in another town and breaks up with her--on the very same day she wins her dream dress--her world is turned upside down. Dare she go to Dallas to claim her prize? And will the hunky pro basketball player who runs the beyond-swanky bridal shop--yeah, you read that right--discover her humiliating secret if she does?

"Every Bride Needs a Groom is one to savor over and over. This compelling tale keeps you hooked and ignites your heart. What an intriguing way to visit the culture of a small central Texas town."--Eleanor Clark, award-winning author; motivational speaker; and Fairfield, Texas, resident

"Thompson launches a new bridal series with a contemporary, joyful Cinderella story that is filled with good humor and old-fashioned Southern style. Readers will fall in love with Katie and the rest of the well-drawn Fisher clan. This swoon-worthy tale will appeal to aficionados of humorous romances by Rachel Hauck and Lisa Wingate."--Library Journal

MY THOUGHTS

If I want a book that will cheer me up and make me smile, I make sure that Janice Thompson is the author! She kicks off a new series with a fun story set in a small Texas town along the interstate between Houston and Dallas, and she has captured it perfectly. Although it's been a few years, I've been there many times and eaten at Sam's--thanks to this novel, I felt the years fall away! I loved Katie and her family. Katie's dilemma is simultaneously amusing and embarrassing! Once again, Thompson has created a wonderfully eclectic yet authentic set of characters for this tale. A couple of folks from her previous series either pop in or are mentioned, making the story that much more enjoyable. The tension between the small-town and the big city are well portrayed, with the positives and negatives of both equally noted by various characters. And the decades-long stand-off between Katie's grandmother and great-aunt was perfectly depicted and such a reminder of how much time is lost in relationships that fracture over misunderstandings. Janice Thompson remains on my list of favorites for light-hearted reads with a subtle faith message. Grab your copy of Every Bride Needs a Groom today!

She didn't expect to fall in love--but roses aren't the only thing blooming on Galveston Island

She wants to spend her time immersed in her new job at a Galveston Island floral shop, arranging blooms and brightening occasions with her lovely creations. But her boisterous Greek family--especially her father--has other ideas. They've all relocated to Galveston to open up a new family restaurant located on the Strand--directly across the street from iconic pizza place Parma John's--and they want Cassia's full participation.

To make matters worse, as Cassia is trying to develop a strong professional relationship with Galveston's premier wedding coordinator, Bella Neeley, her own father is intent on stealing all of the Rossi family's faithful customers. Not exactly the best way to get into this former Rossi's good graces!

Still, at least Alex, that hot delivery guy from the nursery, is always hanging around the flower shop . . .

MY THOUGHTS

I absolutely love Janice Thompson's books, especially her series that are set on Galveston Island right here in Texas. Her Weddings by Bella Series was such fun that I was thrilled that she spun off a second series with Weddings by Design, and it has been just as delightful. This final novel pulls out all the stops and showcases Thompson's talents at creating an engaging story with sympathetic characters whose inner struggles are easy to identify with, while at the same time peppering it with just the right amount of laughter and fun. At times it looks as though mayhem may take over both the story and the island due to the somewhat tumultuous relationships and emotionally-charged interactions that characterize the Pappas and Rossi families. However, Thompson's skillful character development and her steady faith thread provides the necessary balance and gives the story depth. In addition to familiar faces from the previous books in this series and the Weddings by Bella series, some of the folks from the Backstage Pass series make appearances as well, and the result made me want to climb through the pages and join the party! Don't miss this novel and this series, and grab Janice Thompson's other books as well. You'll be heading to Galveston before you can even finish them!

But when Jordan Singer, reporter for Texas Bride magazine, visits the shop to do a feature, Gabi is humbled in his influential--and unnervingly handsome--presence.

MY THOUGHTS

Janice Thompson writes such delightful books, and her Weddings by Design series is pure fun! The first two books, Picture Perfect and The Icing on the Cake (click the titles for my reviews) were just what their titles implied, and this third novel charmed me as well. Galveston, Texas is once again the setting for a story about a seamstress whose job is making other brides' dreams come true but who wonders if her own dreams will ever materialize. Thompson deftly combines authentic conflicts and struggles with humorous, laugh-out-loud moments, all of which draw the readers deeper into the story and endear Gabi to their hearts. With appearances by a few of the characters that made her earlier Weddings by Bella series so engaging, The Dream Dress is a fitting addition to a much-loved saga, and it's difficult to believe I won't actually encounter any of these folks the next time I'm on the Strand in Galveeston! Fortunately, we don't have to say good-bye just yet as a fourth book, A Bouquet of Love will be coming in August. Don't miss any of the books in this series!

MY THOUGHTS

I fell in love with Janice Thompson's wedding-themed books when I read her Weddings by Bella series and was delighted when she returned to Galveston with the Weddings by Design series. The first book lived up to its title, Picture Perfect (my review is here, and The Icing on the Cake is, well, just that! While much about this book is pure sweetness and fun, Thompson has tastefully blended an additional ingredient into the story as Scarlet grapples with an issue familiar and relatable to many women. A heaping supply of humor mixes with the perfect measure of faith and love, providing the perfect recipe for a great read! MY THOUGHTS

Oh, I absolutely loved Janice Thompson's Weddings by Bella series (reviewed here), so I was thrilled to discover she returned to Galveston with another series of books intersecting with some of those characters! Picture Perfect takes place several years after the Bella series, and this first novel zooms in on a different aspect of the wedding business: photography. Hannah McDermott and Drew Kincaid immediately became new favorites of mine as this story focuses on their professional (and increasingly personal!) interactions. Hannah's quiet and predictable life at home with her Irish parents is such a contrast to Bella's effusive Italian clan, and the first time the families meet is an event to remember! I love the Bing and Bob party that Hannah's parents host each year, giving tribute to Bing Crosby and Bob Hope with their friends attending in costumes and bearing food, representing which of the two men their favorite. This story is just as much fun as the previous series, with plenty of action and humor and lots of drama! Thompson expertly blends it all like a photographer organizing a large family photo session, and the result is...well, Picture Perfect!
