Friday Flashback

How many of you remember this TV movie from 1971? I remember our family watching it and my mom and sister bawling! I always loved the theme song.

Here's the speech Gale Sayers (played by Billy Dee Williams) made accepting his George S. Halas Courage Award and his tribute to his dear friend, Brian Piccolo.

Those of you not familiar with the story of Gale Sayers & Brian Piccolo and their friendship, and this Emmy Award movie can find out more here.

My step-brother Bryan and I were home alone for the weekend and we stayed up way late (after 9) and watched this. We cried and cried. I remember we had popcorn we never ate and soda we never drank. I had to clean it up in the morning. Since pop and snacks were rarities at our house, you know we were sorely affected.

I don't remember the movie, but I remember the theme song made me cry whenever my sister played it on the piano!

I remember it and I loved it. I love the song too. I used to try to play it on the piano, but I was never very good at it. Oh and I cried too when I watched it.

For the record, you asked for this comment: I haven't seen this movie, mostly because I wasn't even born when it was on TV.

You're welcome. ;-)

That and "Love Story" are the saddest movies I've ever seen. After I saw this movie I kept thinking I had lung cancer. I don't watch sad, depressing movies any more!!
