When we step across the line we can sail across the sea

Amazing, beautiful things happen when people have the courage to live, work, and pray in the spirit of unity and peace. Often, though, to make these amazing things happen, we have to step out of our comfort zone and into a world we find uncomfortable or intimidating. Sometimes that world is physical; other times it can be emotional, relational, or spiritual.

City on Our Knees shows this, encouraging you to take the first step. It offers stories of people who have stepped across lines. Lines of discrimination, persecution, doubt, prejudice, pride, bitterness, self-isolation, and despair. I pray and hope that you will be inspired to see how just one person, or one small group, can be a mechanism for change.

God can use us right here. Right now. All we need is faith that He has our best in mind. And believe me—He does.

—TobyMac

MY THOUGHTS:
City on Our Knees is an inspirational book designed to encourage folks to step out of their comfort zones and reach out to others. TobyMac makes the point in his introduction that sharing God's love doesn't always mean selling all you own and moving to the far reaches of the earth. He uses this book to demonstrate that ministry comes in all shapes and sizes and the book is a collection of stories of people who have made a difference. Setting up lemonade stands to raise money for cancer research, teaching Bible classes in a prison, and feeding the homeless, and prayer are just a few of the spotlighted demonstrations of faith. Some are as current as early 2010, while other stories happened a century or more ago. And the individuals spotlighted range in age from elementary-aged on up into late adulthood. The book is divided into four themed sections which each relate to a phrase from his song by the same name. Prayers, quotes, and Scripture verses are sprinkled throughout the book. If you have ever felt "But I'm just one person," this book will encourage you to take that first step that can become a life-changing experience for the world around you as well as yourself. As the song says, "If you gotta start somewhere, why not here, If you gotta start sometime, why not now?"
